Google Public NTP is a free time service operated on the same anycast infrastructure as Google’s public DNS.
Instead of inserting leap seconds as clock steps, Google Public NTP smears the leap second over 24 hours, slowly adjusting the time so applications never see a sudden jump. This makes it a good choice when all your servers can use Google alone, but it must not be mixed with non-smearing time sources.
| Hostname | Note |
|---|---|
time.google.com
| Anycast (global) |
time1.google.com
| Anycast node 1 |
time2.google.com
| Anycast node 2 |
time3.google.com
| Anycast node 3 |
time4.google.com
| Anycast node 4 |
Google applies a 24-hour leap smear: do not mix time.google.com with non-smearing servers in the same NTP configuration.
